Walsall Community Indoor Bowls League  (Monday)

Tips for playing away Games

  • Put the jack on the middle as it will give you a greater margin of error until you settle to the speed of the mat.

  • Use your roll-ups wisely, bowl one each side of the block from both ends.  You are trying to find the speed of the mat and whether it has a roll-off to the left or right, also lengthwise, e.g. uphill or downhill.

  • Bearing in mind that the home players might try to mislead you during the roll-up, watch their first bowls in the game proper very carefully.  Find the best side for you to bowl on and stick to it if possible.  However, try to be aware of how the other side of the mat behaves in case you are forced to play it.

  • If your opponent favours one side continually put a blocker there with your first bowl, if you can, whilst remembering the best blocker of all is just in front of the jack.

  • Help any team mates who might follow on that mat by advising them how it is playing, whilst remembering rule 8e "Except for a player's partner in doubles, no one shall give advice on playing a shot"

Above all enjoy your game
